Where is pin 1 located on a ribbon cable?
A) In the center of the connector
B) Closest to the colored marking on the edge of the cable
C) Farthest away from the colored marking on the edge of the cable
D) Pin 1 is in a different place on every ribbon cable
Answer: B) Closest to the colored marking on the edge of the cable
Every ribbon cable has a colored marking along one edge of the cable to designate the location of pin 1. Although the ribbon cable has a uniform shape across the width of the cable, it’s easy to see the pin 1 colored edge along the side of the ribbon cable.
The incorrect answers:
A) In the center of the connector
Ribbon cables come in different sizes and configurations, so it would be difficult to determine the exact center of a ribbon cable inside of a dusty computer case in bad lighting. Fortunately, you won’t find pin 1 in the center of the ribbon cable connector.
C) Farthest away from the colored marking on the edge of the cable
Pin 1 is always well marked, and it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to put it farthest away from the only markings that can be easily seen on the cable.
D) Pin 1 is in a different place on every ribbon cable
I’m glad this is an incorrect answer! It would be difficult to manage ribbon cables if the pins were different on each one of them!
