Which of these systems would be most likely to have an 8-pin EPS12V standard power connection?
A) Print server
B) Database server
C) Internet browsing workstation
D) Email kiosk
E) I’d use it for yet-another LED flashlight power source
The answer: B) Database server
The 8-pin EPS12V power connection was designed for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) systems and multi-core systems. These motherboards had additional processing cycles and needed more power for the higher-end CPUs. These were similar to the 4-pin ATX12V standard, and some EPS12V motherboards simply used two four-pin connectors to maintain the backwards-compatibility.
